I have been teaching art classes in one form or another since 2010, working as a freelance illustrator and fine artist in that time too.
I'm currently artist-in-residence at the BMI, where I run various art courses for adults. I'm also a member of the Birmingham Art Circle.
The main aim of my courses is to enjoy the process of creativity without the fear of making mistakes. I see mistakes as leading to discoveries and insight. Even the Great Masters had to learn to draw and paint, and yes, they certainly made plenty of mistakes along the way.
I like my courses to cater for drawing in various media like charcoal and pastel, or painting in oil, acrylic, and ink. My courses explore each of these mediums, with hands-on advice, constructive critique, and demonstrations.
Art doesn’t have to be intimidating. My aim is to make it accessible, rewarding, and enjoyable, in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. There is no better place to do just that than the beautiful and historic surroundings of the Birmingham and Midlands Institute.
