Francis Marvell-Carr Foyer Exhibition

Francis has been painting watercolours since 1991. she had also been diverse in her creative pursuits. her original background in textile design led her to industry in the 1980’s, when she also developed her ideas in constructed wall hangings, while working full time (as a commercial designer) for Courtaulds PLC.

After a period in India (95-97), Francis completed a diploma in painting at Visva Bharati University, West Bengal. Although she continued to paint, she began developing ideas into papercuts whilst in India and continued with this until 2005.

Since 2014, Francis has now recharged her artistic pursuits back into the medium of watercolour painting, which she is most familiar with. This current exhibition at the BMI includes her most recent paintings done since 2020. “Garden Grove,” was one of her earliest watercolour paintings, which was selected to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Hanging Committee in 1991.

25% of any purchase will be donated to Birmingham charity SIFA Fireside.
